Our Work

Grand Marais Creek WRAP:
improving water quality in the Red River Basin
- one watershed at a time

In addition to working on the Mustinka River Watershed Restoration and Protection Plan (WRAP), EOR will begin working a bit more north in the Red River Basin with the Red Lake Watershed District in conducting this MPCA-funded WRAP for the Red Lake Watershed District.

A tributary of the Red River, Grand Marais Creek runs 41 miles and has had multiple water quality impairments in various reaches including the following pollutant/stressors dissolved oxygen, turbidity, pH, E. Coli, Mercury, and PCBs.

EOR will analyze existing and new collected water quality data to verify the impairments on these listed reaches and to determine the status of the remaining river reaches as being either impaired or currently meeting standards.

Stakeholder involvement and public participation will be a focus throughout the Watershed Approach Project; providing an opportunity for the local community to engage in the process of watershed management and to adopt protection and restoration practices. To learn more about the project schedule, project area, and the public involvement process see our announcement flyer, the official kick-off meeting letter, and the accompanying EOR press release.
