Climate Risk Assessment

Climate Change Risk Vulnerability Assessment

EOR and partner organizations evaluated the climate risks, existing and expected, by 2100 for the City of Mississauga, related to four service areas: Transportation, Facilities, Parks, and Stormwater. Along with climate risk, the team estimated the social vulnerability to flood hazards to determine equitable prioritization of adaptation measures and projects building landscape resilience.

EOR assigned and applied climate risks to the asset risk developed within the Service Area Asset Management Plans (AMPs). The City selected target neighborhoods and completed risk mapping for each service area using geospatial analysis. The team developed adaptation and resilience recommendations for the climate hazard-asset type linkages identified as high and medium-high risk. Recommendations cover the spectrum of policy and procedure, design resiliency, capital projects, operations & maintenance, and staff resources.

Client Benefits

  • Incorporated climate change risk asset management planning as a regulatory requirement of Ontario Regulation 588/17.
  • Prioritized adaption and resiliency measures required to meet the city’s current and future needs.
  • Engaged representatives from all assessed service areas to ensure cross-area impacts were identified.
