Substation Upgrades for Security + Generation

Substation Upgrades for Security + Distributed Generation

EOR worked with a utility to expand an existing transmission substation to facilitate interconnection of a new solar energy facility. The upgrade would accommodate a 300+MW solar project and incorporate the addition of a new precast concrete security perimeter wall, mechanical security gate and a retaining wall to minimize impacts to nearby wetlands.

EOR civil and water resources engineers created a subsurface drainage plan to bypass offsite drainage and mitigate the pooling of stormwater runoff within the substation walls. The team addressed many site challenges to ensure that water was routed outside the substation fence and away from the mechanical gate. The team prepared zoning submittals, attended plan commission meetings, coordinated with authorities to address concerns, and secured all the zoning, stormwater, and erosion control permit approvals.
